2009 Toyota Tundra
Overview
The 2009 Toyota Tundra is a full-size pickup truck that offers plenty of choice for buyers. It is available in 45 models, three cab styles, three engines, three bed lengths, and two drivetrains. The three Cab styles are - Regular, Double, and CrewMax. Regular Cab is offered in standard Tundra Grade and in Flex Fuel Vehicle (FFV), while Double and CrewMax Cab styles add SR5 and Limited to their line-up of trim levels. Regular and Double Cab models come with either a six-foot six-inch or an eight-foot bed, while CrewMax is offered with a five-foot six-inch bed.
For 2009, chrome bumper is standard on the Double and CrewMax models. Power Memory Package is available on CrewMax Limited variants. Addition of flex-fuel capability to 5.7-liter V8 Tundra in select regions has resulted in nine more model configurations.
Engine and Performance
The 2009 Tundra Regular and Double Cab variants can be fitted with a 236-horsepower 4.0-liter V6, a 276-horsepower 4.7-liter V8, or a 381-horsepower 5.7-liter V8 engine, while CrewMax models come with either a 4.7-liter V8 or a 5.7-liter V8 engine. A six-speed electronically controlled transmission is standard with the 5.7-liter engine and a five-speed electronically controlled gearbox is standard with the V6 and the 4.7-liter V8 engines. Flex fuel versions run on either E85 or regular gas. Both rear-wheel and four-wheel drive configurations are available on the 2009 Tundra.
Body and Styling
Prominent exterior features found on all 2009 Tundra models include front and rear bumper; door handles; lift tailgate; grille surround; outside mirrors; rail caps; and rear glass. The 2009 Tundra Double Cab and CrewMax models provide seating for up to six passengers, while there is room for three passengers inside the Regular Cab models. The cabin of the 2009 Tundra is versatile and designed to facilitate more space. The control knobs are easy to operate and the gauges are easy to read. The large center console can hold a laptop and hanging files. The seats of the Tundra Limited are wide, supportive, and comfortable. Cup holders, two-way adjustable headrests at all positions, speedometer, tripmeter, digital clock, and an ashtray and cigarette lighter are standard amenities found inside all 2009 Tundra models. AM/FM CD with auxiliary audio jack and four speakers are standard on all Tundra Regular Cab models.
Safety Features
The Toyota Tundra is the first large truck to be named as a Top Safety Pick by the IIHS. Standard safety equipment on all Tundra models includes three-point seatbelts in all seating positions; driver and front outboard passenger airbags with advanced airbag system; driver and front passenger seatbelt pre-tensioners with force limiters; tire pressure monitor system; emergency locking retractor on driver's seatbelt; automatic/emergency locking retractors on all passenger seatbelts; vehicle stability control; traction control; and four-wheel disc anti-lock brake system with electronic brake-force distribution and brake assist.
